How to Add and Manage Contacts on the Desktop Softphone

Learn how to manually add, view, and call Quick Dial contacts in the Unitel Voice Desktop Softphone for Windows and Mac, including how to enable BLF to monitor employee extension status.

The Unitel Voice Desktop Softphone allows you to manually add contacts for quick and easy dialing. You can also enable Busy Lamp Field (BLF) for compatible employee extensions to monitor their call status.

Note: Contacts do not automatically sync from your computer, Google, Outlook, or other contact lists. Each contact must be added individually.

Adding a Contact

  1. Open the Unitel Voice Desktop Softphone.

  2. Click Contacts in the left-hand menu.

  3. Click the + icon at the top of the Contacts screen.

  4. In the Add to Quick Dial window, enter the following information:

    • Display Name: Enter the name you want displayed for the contact.

    • URI: Enter the contact's phone number or employee extension.

    • Enable BLF (Optional): Turn this on if you want to monitor the call status of a compatible employee extension.

  5. Click Save to add the contact.

Viewing and Calling Contacts

  1. Click Contacts in the left-hand menu.

  2. Browse your Quick Dial contacts or use the search icon to find a specific contact.

  3. Select a contact to view their details.

  4. Click the phone icon next to the contact to place a call.

Using BLF with Contacts

When adding an employee extension, you can enable Busy Lamp Field (BLF) to monitor that extension's call status.

BLF can help you see whether a coworker's extension is available or currently on a call.

Note: BLF functionality depends on your Unitel Voice account configuration and the extension being monitored.
