Troubleshooting: Poor Call Quality on Your IP Phone

Fix poor call quality on Unitel Voice Yealink IP phones. Troubleshoot choppy audio, dropped calls, echo, delays, Wi-Fi interference, network congestion, and VoIP issues on T57W, T34W, and W70B/W73H devices.

If you're experiencing poor audio quality on your Unitel Voice IP phone, such as choppy audio, dropped words, delays, echoes, or calls cutting in and out, the issue may be related to your internet connection, network equipment, or phone settings.

Follow these steps to help identify and resolve the problem.

Step 1: Check Your Internet Connection

Poor call quality is often caused by an unstable internet connection.

  1. Make sure your internet connection is working properly.

  2. Check whether other devices on your network are experiencing slow speeds or connection issues.

  3. If possible, run an internet speed test to check your connection.

Important: Even with fast internet speeds, network congestion, latency, or packet loss can affect call quality.

Step 2: Check Your Network Connection

For Yealink T57W and T34W desk phones:

  1. Make sure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to your phone's Internet port.

  2. Check that the other end is connected to your router or network switch.

  3. If available, try a different Ethernet cable or network port.

For Yealink W70B/W73H cordless phones: Check the Ethernet connection on the W70B base station. If audio quality changes as you move around your office, try moving closer to the base station to rule out wireless signal interference.

Step 3: Restart Your Phone and Network Equipment

Restarting your equipment can sometimes resolve temporary connection issues.

  1. Restart your IP phone or W70B base station.

  2. If the problem continues, restart your router or network switch when it's safe to do so.

  3. Allow everything to reconnect, then place a test call.

Note: Restarting your router may temporarily interrupt internet access and phone service for other users.

Step 4: Check for Network Congestion

Heavy internet usage can affect VoIP call quality.

If you're experiencing audio problems:

  • Pause large downloads, uploads, or cloud backups.

  • Check whether the problem happens during periods of heavy network activity.

  • If available, ask your IT administrator whether your network prioritizes voice traffic using Quality of Service (QoS) settings.

Step 5: Test Your Phone Again

After completing the steps above, make another call to check whether the issue has improved.

If possible, test multiple calls to determine whether the problem occurs with all calls or only certain phone numbers.
