How Minute Usage & Overage Charges Work

Learn how Unitel Voice bills call minutes, including 6-second increments, overage rates, and how forwarded calls are charged.

Updated over a week ago

Your Unitel Voice plan includes a set number of monthly minutes. If you go over your included minutes, additional usage is billed as overage charges. Here's how minute billing works.

How Calls Are Billed

Calls are billed in 6-second increments with an 18-second minimum per call.

This means:

  • A 10-second call is billed as 18 seconds

  • A 22-second call is billed as 24 seconds

  • A 1-minute call is billed as 60 seconds

This billing method helps ensure you are only charged for the time used, instead of rounding every call up to a full minute.

What Happens If I Go Over My Included Minutes?

If you exceed the monthly minutes included in your plan, overage usage is billed based on the type of call.

Standard Overage Rate

When a call includes both:

  • Inbound leg (call coming into your Unitel Voice number): 1.5¢ per minute

  • Forwarding leg (call forwarded to another phone number): 2.4¢ per minute

Total combined overage rate: 3.9¢ per minute

If the Call Is Not Forwarded

If the call is answered in the mobile app, desktop app, or goes directly to voicemail, only the inbound portion applies:

  • 1.5¢ per minute

How to Reduce Overage Charges

  • Monitor your monthly usage in your Unitel Voice dashboard

  • Use the mobile or desktop app when possible

  • Upgrade your plan if you regularly exceed included minutes
