The Greetings section has two areas:
The Main Greeting is on the left
The After Hours Greeting is on the right
Do You Need an After-Hours Greeting?
Most businesses do not need a separate After-Hours Greeting.
During non-business hours, callers typically expect to reach voicemail. Keeping everything under your Main Greeting (and letting voicemail handle missed calls) is the simplest setup and avoids adding extra complexity to your phone system.
If you prefer to play a different message after hours, you can set up an After-Hours Greeting.
How After-Hours Greeting Works
Use the Active Hours section to define your business hours
The Main Greeting plays during your business hours. (By default, the Main Greeting is set to Always be active. This is controlled by the Active Hours dropdown.)
The After Hours Greeting plays outside of those hours
How to Set Up an After-Hours Greeting
1. Set Your Business Hours
Go to Settings
Select Greetings
Under Main Greeting, locate the Active Hours section
Choose a preset schedule from the dropdown, or click the + to create a custom schedule
Add the days and times that match your business hours
Save your changes

Add Start time & End time (use military time, or be sure to include AM and PM).
*Remember, you are setting your business hours here. Outside this time, the after-hours greeting will play.
Click CONTINUE
Select the days of the week that match the hours you just defined. (If your business hours vary by day, you can always come back and add additional days and time ranges to your schedule.)

Click CONTINUE
Turn the All months toggle ON, and then click FINISH
*Remember, you are setting your business hours here. Outside this time, the after-hours greeting will play.
After you've clicked FINISH, you will see that the Always option still exists along with your newly created Business Hours. You will need to delete the Always option by hovering over the Always option and clicking the X
After removing the Always option, click Save
If you need to add additional time slots (for example, if your weekend hours differ from weekdays), click the + to add more time ranges. You can create separate time slots for each group of days to match your exact business hours.
In this example below, the business hours are:Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
2. Add an After-Hours Greeting
You have three options:
Option 1: Record directly in the system
Use the built-in recording tool for a quick setup.
Option 2: Upload an audio file
For better control, you can record using:
Voice Memos (iPhone)
Voice Recorder (Android)
Option 3: Use Voice Talent Studio (1–2 business days)
Visit: https://studio.unitelvoice.com
Order professional recordings for:
Main Greeting
Department Voicemails
After-Hours Greetings
Pro Tip:
Start with the built-in recorder or an upload to get live quickly, then upgrade to a professional recording later.
3. Call Handling Options
Your After-Hours Greeting can do more than just play a message. You can choose what happens if the caller doesn’t make a selection:
Repeat Greeting
Replays the message if no option is selectedTransfer to Extension
Automatically routes the caller if no input is received
Example After-Hours Greeting
“Thank you for calling ABC Company. Our office is currently closed. Our normal hours are 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Please leave a message, and we will return your call the next business day.”
Pro Tip: Special Holiday Hours
If you ever want your After-Hours Greeting to play temporarily (for example, during a holiday like Memorial Day weekend), we recommend updating your business hours to Never.
This will force the system to play your After-Hours Greeting during that time.
Once the holiday has passed, simply return to the Active Hours dropdown and switch back to your normal business hours schedule.
