Phone System Greetings: Main, Voicemail, and After-Hours

Learn the difference between Main, Voicemail, and After-Hours Greetings in Unitel Voice and where each one is used.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Greetings are the recorded messages callers hear as they move through your phone system.

Unitel Voice includes three main types of greetings:

Main Greeting

Your Main Greeting is the first message callers hear when they call your Unitel Voice number.

It is typically used to welcome callers and provide menu options.

Menu Greeting Example: "Thank you for calling ABC Company. For sales, press 1. For support, press 2. For our dial-by-name directory, press 8."

Welcome Greeting Example: "Thank you for calling ABC Company. Please press 0 or remain on the line for the next available representative."

Voicemail Greeting

Each employee extension and department extension can have its own Voicemail Greeting.

This is the message callers hear before leaving a voicemail.

After-Hours Greeting

Your After-Hours Greeting plays when your business is closed.

It can let callers know your office is closed, invite them to leave a message, or route them to another extension.

Example: "Thank you for calling ABC Company. Our office is now closed. Please press 0 to leave a message, and we will return your call the next business day."

Where Each Greeting Is Managed

  • Main Greeting: Settings > Greetings

  • After-Hours Greeting: Settings > Greetings

  • Voicemail Greeting: Extensions > Edit Extension (can be Department Extension and/or Employee Extension) > Voicemail settings section
