What is the Difference between Announced and Unannounced Calls?

Call Announcement feature. Identify business calls with an automated prompt before answering.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Important Note:

We do not recommend using the Call Announcement feature when using the Unitel Voice app or the Unitel Voice Office app, as it may cause calls to be routed incorrectly or display inaccurate information for inbound calls.

The Call Announcement feature helps you identify calls forwarding to your Unitel Voice phone number, to help you identify that it is a call coming from your Unitel Voice phone number, instead of a call made directly to your personal number.

When you receive an inbound call, you will hear an automated message like this:

“This is a call for extension [extension number]. To accept, press 1. To send to voicemail, press 2. To hear the phone number, press 3.”

  • Call Announcement is managed at the Extension Level. (Both Department and Employee Extensions can have it enabled)

  • To enable Call Announcement, you must have Forwarding Enabled.

  • We would recommend that you set the call announcement at the Employee Extension. (Only special cases need it at the Department Extension.)

  • You can see if Call Announcement is enabled by seeing if the "Announced" icon is Blue or Gray in the Extensions Page

    • Example of Call Announcement Enabled

    • Example of Call Announcement Disabled

To Enable Call Announcement:

  1. Click the Extensions tab in the left navigation.

  2. Click ‘Edit’ on the extension you want to update.

  3. Scroll down to the Forwarding settings section and click ‘Edit’ on the forwarding number you wish to adjust.

  4. Scroll down to the Announcement type section, and choose Announced.

  5. Click OK

  6. Click SAVE

  7. You should now see the Announced Icon Enabled
